Valentine's Day No Longer Has Power Over Me
|
| |
For the first time in many years, I am celebrating Valentine's Day without a feeling of angst, frustration, anger or devastation. Maybe it's because of my age, but the day will come and go without ceremony.
I feel free from the outside influences, which dictate that this day is a celebration for couples only. Not true. It is also for those who can love themselves without someone else validating you.
I don't need Valentine's Day for validation. I am my own Queen of Love. And it feels good.

Love Isn't Hard to See
|
 |
I don’t need to see your love
Expressed with flowers and such
I don’t need a special day
To know you’re right in touch.
Your love is always plain to see;
It’s how you treat me each day.
Our love was clearly meant to be;
Let me count some of the ways.
You call back on the cell phone to me;
You’ll cook for me if I ask;
We lie in each other’s arms and watch T.V.
Together we love to relax.
You always notice if I’m upset,
You try to make it right;
It’s not hard to love a man in love,
When he shows it in plain sight.
We don’t have to chase each other,
Cause we’re always where we should be;
When love is mutual and real,
True Love isn’t hard to see.

Valentines Day is Not Always a Happy Day
|
| |
You resolved to be a better person in January. February provides another demonstration of commitment for the year. It’s Valentines Day, a special occasion to pledge or renew devotion to someone you love. Further, it is traditionally preferred that your expression of love be in the form of something tangible, like a card, flowers, candy, or a weekend getaway.
What kind of gift will you give? An e-card, diamond earrings? The obligatory dozen roses? Will it be expensive, elegant and meaningful, or a simple gift and card? The card must be special. The message in the card must convey the extent of your love and devotion. Especially for men who wait until the last minute. If you want to see some fun, go to any store with a card section, and watch the men all but fight each other for the last remnants of quality Valentines Day cards.
If you are married, or with someone you love, Valentine’s Day is a happy one. All you think about from February 1st is what great gift or romantic getaway you and your love will share on that big day. Maybe it’s the day you will propose marriage. Maybe you will express your desire to live together. If you do it on Valentines Day, it will definitely be a memorable occasion.
However, high expectations plague Valentines Day. It is a day meant to exchange tokens of love. At the same time, it can undermine your relationship if you make a wrong move. If you don’t spend enough money on your loved one, you’ll be relegated to the dog house. If your man or woman is not dazzled by your gift or special place to visit, you will be put to shame. If your girl was expecting you to propose, and you don’t, get ready for an extended time in Hell.
Maybe you are one of the millions of single people who have to watch the revelry from the outside of the holiday. Left out of the loop, Valentines Day is torture for a single person. On Valentines Day, couples get super pampered for 24 hours. The most romantic day of the year can be agony to a single person. If you are lonely or depressed, expect that feeling to be magnified.
Ironically, nothing is cast in stone on Valentines Day. You may decide to dump your loved one before the day arrives. Why spend good money on a bad relationship that you plan to end? You can decide to do the same thing to your lover as you did your New Year resolution. Get the gift, and do the dumping afterwards. Call Valentines Day your official Break-Up day.
Don’t be a victim of Valentines Day. Don’t sit around and do nothing to celebrate your existence on earth. Send yourself some flowers. Start your own traditions. Mail Valentines Day cards to your single friends and relatives. Call your single friends and have a Valentines Day ‘for singles only’ party. Tell each friend to bring a single friend, go to your favorite restaurant and bar, and dance the night away. Take your little nieces and nephews out to dinner and a movie.
Single people are not considered on this official day of love. So, plan to celebrate Valentines Day for yourself. Make it your own Happy Day. Get off the computer, get on the telephone and surprise some people you haven’t spoken to in years. Plan to be happy despite all the craziness you see around you by couples stressed out trying to make it a perfect day. If nothing else, you’ll be so busy you won’t have time to be miserable.

Love Is..........
|
| |
Love doesn't need passion, nor flames of bright fire;
Love doesn't require butterflies,
or stomach churning at first view.
No fire works can ignite the need for another.
Love flows with the little things that warm you
And lull you to sleep at peace.
Love is quiet, even while it speaks to you;
A calmness inside flows throughout.
It is a smile that stays long after the view
That warms you for hours,
And holds you together.
When your well of sadness fills too high,
Love can catch your sickness of heart,
And change your mood to inner peace.
Love is Eternally Undisturbed.
It fills a heart with joy,
A body with anticipation,
A mind with hope,
A world that is infinitely whole.

Perfection
|
| |
He squeezes the toothpaste wherever it goes;
He makes me happy when I’m feeling low.
He puts down the toilet lid, and I have to look before I go.
He folds clothes like he’s never seen them folded before.
He makes breakfast that is perfect.
Has a rough exterior - one has to look below the surface.
He leaves the shower head dripping,
And dirty dishes in the kitchen.
He checks to see if I am okay,
And calls me while at work during the day
He peppers his conversations with curse words,
But he’s so funny, I can barely breathe.
I am as happy as a woman can be.
Perfection is in the Eye of the Beholder.

His Love
|
| |
When I wake up in the morning,
He makes me breakfast.
If he does something that makes me sad,
He works hard to correct it.
He watches my moves,
To make sure I’m okay;
Snuggles close to me at night,
And calls me at work every day.
He tends to my needs
And I tend to his, too;
This is what two people in love
Are supposed to do.
I know I don’t say it
As often as I should,
But I would be heartbroken
Without my Hollywood.

What I See
|
 |
I see a glow of flaming embers
Burning brightly through a dark forest,
Illuminating the woods to the sky,
Marking its territory for all those
Who have needed to find comfort and warmth;
I see shining sparkles, a gleam,
A hint of glee, mirth,
And Christmas lights all lit up
And brightening a room
Full of presents and anticipation;
I see lust and desire, growing and sprinting;
Brown eyes round and wide
To engulf and swallow up
As much of life that is
Accessible, available, and ready to be consumed;
I see age and wrinkles,
Maturity and wisdom
Bourne from years of risk,
Willfulness, curiosity, ambition,
and dreams deferred and dashed.
Yet there lives, flickers
of what is still yet to come
and be done.
When I look in your eyes,
when you look at me,
That is all that I see.

|
Self-Realization
|
| |
I tried to be an Observer of Life;
To sit in the background and
Clap for those out front
In the limelight.
I tried to be the wings beneath the wind
Of family and friends,
And celebrate their uniqueness as I
Stayed behind and let their flames glow bright.
I tried to suppress my need to run,
To soar, to fly, to glide across all the
Opportunities that parade about
And dare you to dare to risk it all.
I tried to be someone else
Who was not me,
And I almost lost myself
In utter misery,
Until I realized that being a Happy Me
Would achieve all of the above
And still allow Me to Be.

|
Friends with Benefits
|
 |
I was suffering from desire of
Unmet needs of the flesh;
You came to help, not just with your body,
But also your emotions.
You came to save yourself and your future
By appeasing my needs for the present.
Yet both of us received something unexpected -
An evening of calm, and unhurried,
Mutual sharing of our hearts.
